The Lucerne Valley High School girls basketball were defeated by a tough Hesperia Christian Patriots girls last Tuesday at home by a score of 42-21.
In the process, the Patriots claimed the Agape League title.
The Lady Mustangs started the game by grabbing the lead, finishing the first quarter up by three points, 8-5. But a combination of a tough Patriot defense and the dynamic duo of Jaycee Vick and Elaina Hays, who both finished with 16 points, broke the game open in the second quarter. The teams headed into the locker room at the half with Hesperia Christian, 20 to Lucerne Valley's 8 points.
Hesperia Christian continued pounding away after the half, and by the end of three quarters led by 20 points. The Lady Mustangs found their game in the final quarter, scoring 9 points to the Patriots' 10.
Senior Destynie Urrutia and freshman Loreta Romero were the high scorers for Lucerne Valley with 6 apiece. Sophomore Sarah Smith had 5 points, S. Contreras, a junior, scored 2, and Chreoyn Davis and Kim Morales, both seniors had 1 each.
A number of Lucerne Valley families, students and educators came out to support their team in Bryan L. Walker Gymnasium.
The Mustangs are now 6-2 in Agape League play while Hesperia Christian climbed to 6-1 in league.
